November 8th, 2012

A beautiful baby nursery is so easy to create with the use of vinyl wall decals found on Etsy.  Vinyl decals are super easy to apply, affordable and remove easily without damaging the walls.  Vinyl wall decals allow you express your vision with style.  The room you create will be one of a kind and Etsy is the perfect place to visit for all things handmade.  Designers work with you to personalize custom products made just for you.  Many products are priced comparable to store bought but with loads of love.  As an Etsy seller, I put my heart and soul into every item I ship.  I want it to be perfect and to put a smile on the face of my buyer.

One Etsy shopper contacted me about an item I had listed in my Etsy shop.  She liked what she saw but wanted it altered to meet her vision.  She was so excited that she shared photos of her beautiful baby nursery finished with personalized handmade art for the wall.  This princess decal is available for you to personalize too. Visit my Etsy shop at TheDecalGirl to purchase the Personalized Little Princess Vinyl Wall Decal.

I’ve met so many wonderful people on Etsy.  Helping them create their vision has been a heartwarming experience.  Personalized decals are my favorite.  They are great for girls and boys and teens and tweens. They make wonderful gifts;  for Christmas, for moms to be, for teachers and for weddings.  You can use decals to decorate the nursery, the playroom, the foyer, the master retreat, the bathroom, the bedroom, and the kitchen.  Because they remove easily without damage to the walls, I works with a lot of girls decorating their dorm rooms and apartment dwellers.  My designer decals can be seen in restaurants, catering displays, front doors, and even cars.

Vinyl Decals . . . the easy way to decorate without paint . . . the possibilities are simply endless.

Retro Flower Power Decorating Ideas

July 28th, 2011

I am so excited.  I recently (finally) set up my Etsy Shop.  Yesterday I got a conversation (what Etsy calls e-mails) from Vanessa (Melimebabybeeshop) saying she had featured one of my flower power decals in a Treasury.  I’m so new I don’t even know what a treasury is but I LOVE that she loves us.

We are always thinking about style . . . your style!  Today’s decorating style is a Retro Flower Power look perfect for girls, both teens and tweens.   Even a toddler room can have a retro feel when you use a design such as our Personalized Flower Power Decal Kit.  It’s so much fun to express your style when you use vinyl wall decals . . . not to mention the biggest benefit . . . decals are so quick & easy!

We’ve added a whole new flower power collection of vinyl decals that are bold, sassy, and super cool.  They were styled after popular signature style flower power stencils.  They make us smile!   Bright vinyl colors coordinate with the fabulous and popular Pottery Barn Colors paint palette from Benjamin Moore.

The Flower Power Era  is my absolute favorite retro theme.   I loved Flower Power in the 70’s and I think I love it even more today.  I get so excited when I see peace signs and pom pom ball fringe.  What makes it even more appealing is bringing today’s color combo’s such as pink & brown or lime green & brown into the room or up on the wall.  Traditional flower power color schemes still work and have withstood the test of time.  PB Teen pairs traditional color combos like yellow and orange, purple and teal, and then throw in a new look turquoise with brown & white.   Look around!  Let your imagination run wild.  Inspiration is endless and you will find it everywhere.  As always, we suggest that you choose from the heart, pick colors that make you happy.

Now for the fun!  Here’s two of our new decal designs.  We hope that they will Inspire! you to do your next room redo in Retro.

Faux Brick – A New Look

June 16th, 2011

This post was originally to be  “One Stencil – Two Looks” and  I’ll get to that, but what happened today changed the whole course of my post.

My Arhaus Furniture catalog arrived in the mail this afternoon and I took a moment to just sit down and dream.  I love the furniture and their room settings.   The brick wall in this particular picture caught my eye because . . . .

Faux Brick Wall

last week I received an e-mail from Valerie Selkirk who just purchased our faux brick stencil.  When I say just, I mean just . . . the stencil was no sooner out the door when her fab photo was in my mailbox.  She used the stencil to create a faux brick wall in her powder room.  Having lived near Georgetown (Washington, DC) I know that interior brick walls have a real charm and are a highly sought after feature.  Using the stencil and a little bit of paint Valerie created the illusion of a brick wall.  Compare her faux brick wall to the Arhaus picture.  Valerie’s faux brick is spectacular, so realistic.  If you always wanted an interior brick wall and weren’t lucky enough to get one . . . . no worries . . . . . paint one with our Faux Brick Stencil.  It’s that easy.  Great job Valerie, and I love “the look” of old world mixed with modern fixtures.  Thanks for sharing.

Our Faux Brick Stencil  is so versatile, a faux brick wall, exposed brick, or  . . . . from our photo file, we found a picture where a painting contractor used the stencil to create a faux brick column, part of a garden mural at Prestige Landscape in Chesterfield, Missouri.

If the real thing is pricey or just not practical, think faux.  Faux fur – yep!  Faux brick – yep!  Faux sun –  I’ve been known to do that too!

Hoping this helps you to be Inspired and get everything you want, even if it’s faux!

Paris-Inspired Bedroom – Decorate With Decals

March 16th, 2011

This is not the typical little girl pink and black Paris-Inspired bedroom but rather, a grown up, lavish, french decor style.  I don’t know why I use birds when decorating the walls of a Paris-Inspired bedroom but it works for me.  I mean really . . . . what do birds have to do with Paris?  Do birds invoke a feeling of romance?  Is it because the birdcage is wire?

I have no idea, no logical reason but, I love, love, love birds in a french boudoir.

I’ve tried this hanging birdcage vinyl wall decal design using multiple colors, brown for the branch, blue for the birds; but the simplicity of black is truly my favorite.  Is black regal or is it the elegance of black and white/cream?  This look is truly luxe.

Decorator STYLE tip:  Take an element of the design and place it randomly.  Put a bird in the closet or the adjoining bath or in the hallway by the door entering the room.  Here we’ve placed a bird on top of the door frame.  It creates a little unexpected surprise.

Pink and Brown Polka Dot Bedroom

March 13th, 2011

Think stencils as an easy & affordable way to finish any room.  One of the great things about stencils is that you can do them in whatever color or shade you choose.  Craft acrylic paints are the perfect choice for stenciling and with hundreds of colors from which to choose, you will usually find the perfect match to fabrics or accessories in the room.

A great color combo for a 2011 teen bedroom – bubble gum pink and chocolate brown!  This is a teen bedroom idea with syle!  Polka Dot Style with big dots or circles scattered all over the walls!  The polka dot circles were created using a traditional wall stencil because we want to repeat them over and over.  Traditional stencils are cut on a plastic mylar which can be used multiple times and washed if necessary.  Our polka dot cirlce stencil is a sticky stencil.  It’s cut on a sticky back mylar so the stencil sticks to the wall like a post-it note eliminating the need for stencil spray adhesive.  Use the roller stenciling technique to make this job speedy.  “It’s a girl thing!” was stenciled on the wall using a one-time use vinyl stencil but you could just as easily apply a vinyl wall decal.

The bedding shown is Mod Dots Pink Polka Dot by JoJo Designs.

Border, Border, on the Wall!

February 9th, 2011

Yes, borders on the wall still work.  Although, today’s style might be to border the border.  Create a border within a border by taping off a section on the wall and paint it in a contrasting or coordinating color.  Now you now have a defined field to stencil the border design.

Connie Griffiths a decorative stencil artist in the suburbs of Chicago asked us to create a stencil to coordinate with Pottery Barn bedding being used in the room.  Connie’s Border came to life and tied the room together, it completes the design project.  The design is offered in two sizes (large is shown.)

Additionally, Connie had us cut a custom name stencil which she used to personalize the footboard.

A simple border can still do magic.  It’s a decorative detail that may never go out of style.

Girls Gone Wild

February 2nd, 2011

. . . wild for a pink zebra room!

Take a peak at Maddie’s new room.  She loves all things pink and zebra.  Her passion – gymnastics.  So when Grandma announced her gift for Christmas was to let the three sisters reDecorate their bedrooms, Maddie went a little wild.

A decorative painter was hired who called StencilsAndDecals to cut one-time use vinyl stencils to complete the project.  We incorporated Maddie’s Style into the room.  Maddie loves the mod look so she chose peace signs, a hip 70’s  retro style font for her name, our new Zebra Stripe border stencil and a custom gymnast design.  We then “zebrafied” a heart for the graphic boder.

The color palette – two shades of Sherwin Williams pink paint were chosen for the walls.   The top was painted with the lighter shade SW6849 Partytime and the bottom painted with SW6854 Impatient Pink.

Our Zebra Stripes stencil was used to paint the white border for a dramatic designer look.

The designing didn’t stop there.  Every girly loves to doodle and a custom chalkboard was installed.  Accomplish this by using either chalkboard paint or give us a call to place a custom order for chalkboard vinyl.  Chalkboard vinyl can be cut in all kinds of nifty shapes or if you choose a standard square or rectangle shape; get Dad involved and have him paint molding and add a frame as shown .

Maddie’s room is beautiful . . . just another wild, affordable, and easy way to decorate with paint!
